Every now and then, an artist gets captured in their truest and greatest element: LIVE! This is without a doubt of of Kevn’s shining moments as a performer in my opinion. Kevn has always been known to put on amazing live shows both as a solo performer and as the frontman for Georgia legends Drivin’ N Cryin’. On this night, The Kevn Kinney Band pulled into Charlotte, NC supporting his “Broken Hearts & Auto Parts” album. The Visulite only had a handful of people but the show that they delivered this night was just absolutely stellar!
The band was firing on all cylinders this night and the set list is a retrospective type list ranging from brand new songs from the album to deep Drivin’ N Cryin’ songs like “Yes That’s Me” and “Look What You’ve Done To Your Brother”. The storytelling was absolutely amazing and had us all laughing and even at times borderline crying. The highlight of the show is the “Straight To Hell” story in which Kevn talks about how he got so tired of playing “Straight To Hell” and one night, he decided to play it Reggae style to the dismay ofa fan who went on to yell obscenities at him and threatening him to “Play the song right you sonofabitch!”.
This is a show that all must hear and is a great way to get introduced to Kevn Kinney. You get some of his greatest songs, the best stories and a show that will just blow you away. I remember hearing Kevn say once that some of the best shows he ever did were the ones that nobody was there to see. Well, there wasn’t a lot of folks at this show but I’m sure glad I was there to see it. One of my all time favorites!
Enjoy!
